PROGRAM
1st day Arrival
Pick up at your airport of destination (Rome, Florence, Pisa) and transfer with our bus G.T. in the village of Chianciano Terme and accommodation in the hotel in the reserved rooms. Dinner and overnight.
2 day “La Val d’Orcia”:
After a wonderful breakfast, departure for Pienza and meeting with the local guide. Visit of the charming village known as the ideal city of the Renaissance. Having become Pope Pius II, he wanted to transform his
hometown – perched on top of a hill overlooking the Orcia Valley – into a vital center of the Italian Renaissance. The author of the work was the great Leon Battista Alberti. Here we could taste the famous pecorino di Pienza, a typical cheese made with goat’s milk. At the end, continue to Bagno Vignoni and visit the spa town known since the times of the Etruscans and Romans and frequented by illustrious personalities such as Caterina da Siena and Lorenzo de ‘Medici. Late afternoon return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
3rd day Montalcino – San Quirico – Montepulciano:
Breakfast at the hotel, today we departe for Montalcino and meeting with the local guide. Visit of the historic center of the town which has remained almost intact since the 16th century. Montalcino is not only the homeland of Brunello but you can admire the mighty fortress of medieval origin and the Palazzo dei Priori in Piazza del Popolo. Transfer to San Quirico d’Orcia to visit the town which in the Middle Ages was an important stop along the Via Francigena for pilgrims traveling to Rome. The village still shows its original medieval structure and is located inside a characteristic wall. Free lunch. Afternoon guided excursion to
Montepulciano to visit the town which is the manifesto of the good and the beautiful: art treasures kept in its churches and architectural curiosities. We will stop at a winery canteen to visit and taste a glass of Montepulciano red wine. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
4th day The Historic Steam Train:
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Siena. Arrival at the train station at 8.30 am and boarding on the Historic Steam Train. Departure from Siena at approximately 8.55 am Continue to Monte Antico through the
Crete Senesi, the Val d’Orcia Park and the Brunello di Montalcino areas. At 10.50 am arrival in Monte Antico and short stop with time available to take pictures of the locomotive in maneuver and when it will refuel the tender with water. Arrival in Monte Amiata Scalo and transfer by bus to Castiglion d’Orcia. Lunch in a typical restaurant. Free time in the afternoon to visit the historic village and the Rocca. Around 16:30 departure for the return trip. Overnight at Hotel.
5th day “The villages of the tuff: Pitigliano and Sovana”:
Arrival in Pitigliano (before 10.00) and meeting with the guide for the visit of the splendid village, built on a tuffaceous drum, which jealously preserves the memories of its ancient past. Continue to Sorano free lunch. Afternoon guided tour of Sorano and continuation to Sovana to visit the town with its Romanesque cathedral, its ancient palaces and the fortress which represents the “pearl” of the Maremma. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight.
6th day end of the services:
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport for return to the office.
